6 Simple Hacks for a More Intentional Day

Updated: May 8

Our days have this tendency to absolutely fly by. We wake up, move through our routines, check off our responsibilities, and before we know it, the day is over and we are already onto the next one.

Between busy schedules, endless notifications, and the constant feeling that there is always something else we should be doing, it is easy to move through our daily routines on autopilot without really being present in them.

Intentional living is not about creating a perfect day or completely reinventing your life overnight. It’s about bringing a little more awareness into your everyday moments and making small choices that help your days feel calmer, more meaningful, and more aligned with what actually matters to you.

Because when you start to feel more intentional in your everyday life, even ordinary days can begin to feel different.

Here are a few simple ways to bring more intention into your daily routine.

Start your morning without your phone

Instead of immediately reaching for your phone, give yourself a few quiet moments first. Enjoy your coffee slowly, journal for a few minutes, stretch, or simply sit in silence before the day begins.

This is something I have personally been working on lately, with mixed success. But I have noticed that when I intentionally avoid checking my phone first thing in the morning, the rest of my day tends to feel calmer, less rushed, and more grounded. I feel more present with myself instead of immediately being pulled into notifications, emails, or everyone else’s energy before I have even checked in with my own.

Even a few phone-free minutes in the morning can make a difference on the rest of the day.

Ask yourself how you want to feel

Before getting on with your day, pause and ask yourself how you want to feel.

Maybe you want to feel calm, focused, energized, grounded, creative, or present. Let that feeling guide the choices you make throughout the day, from how you structure your schedule to how you care for yourself.

Add some extra “feel good” into your routine

Build routines around how you want to feel, not just around what you need to get done.

Your routines should help you feel supported, not overwhelmed. Small things like playing calming music while getting ready, opening the windows for fresh air, taking a short walk, slowing down your mornings, or lighting a candle while working can completely shift the energy of your day.

These small moments may seem simple, but they help you feel more connected to your life instead of constantly rushing through it.

Stop multitasking everything

Not every moment needs to be combined with another task.

Sometimes it is okay to drive without listening to a podcast, enjoy a meal without scrolling on your phone, or go for a walk without constantly checking notifications.

This is something I am constantly working on myself. It can feel so natural to fill every quiet moment with productivity or entertainment, but slowing down and being more present often makes everyday moments feel more meaningful and enjoyable.

Create more pauses in your day

Not every moment needs to be filled. Giving yourself small pauses throughout the day can help you feel less reactive and more intentional with your time and energy. Even taking a few deep breaths between tasks, stepping outside for five minutes, or slowing down before moving into the next part of your day can help you reset and reconnect with yourself.

Often, it is in those small pauses that we feel most grounded.

Schedule time for yourself first

Do not wait until you have extra time to rest or do things you enjoy, because we all know that time might not ever come. Intentionally create space in your schedule every day for movement, hobbies, creativity, quiet time, or anything else that helps you feel like yourself.

Even adding one small thing into your day that is purely for you can make a difference.

Intentional living does not have to be complicated. It is not about doing everything perfectly or completely changing your life all at once. It is about creating small moments of awareness and making choices that help your life feel more supportive, meaningful, and aligned over time.

Because often, the smallest shifts are the ones that quietly change everything.

Happy journaling!
